Case Report: The monostotic fibrous dysplasia with extensive lesions in the humerus: A report of two cases and review of the literature |

Yu Guo, Dehong Feng, Ling Wang, Yujian Ding, Yi Liu, Junshan He, Jijun Zhao, Xiaofeng Gu Digit Med 2023, 9:5 (6 March 2023) DOI:10.4103/digm.digm_34_22
Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a common benign skeletal disease. In this report, we retrospectively analyzed two cases of monostotic FD with extensive lesions involving the middle and proximal humerus with fractures, where a thorough curettage and autograft followed by interfixation were performed. However, one patient was cured successfully, and the other one had repeated recurrences and pathological fractures. Finally, with the help of computer-aided design and three-dimensional printing technology, the other one patient was cured by unconstrained reverse shoulder arthroplasty combined with allograft-prosthetic composite technology.

Case Report: Giant mucinous cystadenoma of the pancreas in a young female |
|
Ravikanth Reddy Digit Med 2023, 9:4 (9 February 2023) DOI:10.4103/digm.digm_29_22
Cystic tumors of the pancreas are rare and may be confused with hydatid cysts, especially in endemic areas. The incidence of cystic neoplasms of the pancreas is relatively rare in the pediatric population and young adults. We present a 21-year-old female with a well-defined giant multiloculated cystic lesion in the body and tail of the pancreas, which was diagnosed as a hydatid cyst elsewhere. The patient underwent laparoscopic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy. There was no visible communication between the mucinous cystic neoplasm and the pancreatic duct. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of benign mucinous cystadenoma of the pancreas. Ambiguity in the management of the lesion arises when mucinous cystadenoma is commonly misdiagnosed as pancreatic pseudocyst because the surgical management is entirely different.

Case Report: “An unusual cause of pain abdomen”: Acute mercury poisoning |
|
Sudheer Tale, Mrudula Kolli, Soibam Pahel, Sivaji Pudi, Anil Garbhapu Digit Med 2021, 7:6 (7 December 2021) DOI:10.4103/digm.digm_12_20
The severity of mercury intoxication depends on the chemical form, dose, and route of exposure. Mercury intoxication has a wide variety of clinical manifestations that may involve the neurological, gastrointestinal, and dermatological systems. After diagnosis is made, prompt treatment is necessary to avoid systemic complications. Here, we report an unusual case of accidental ingestion of mercury and presenting as acute pain abdomen. She was managed conservatively and discharged in hemodynamically stable condition.

Federico De Salvo, Paolo Milia, Maria Cristina Peccini, Alice Sfaldaroli, Silvi Cadri, Marco Caserio, Benedetta Bigazzi, Mario Bigazzi Digit Med 2018, 4:191 (28 December 2018) DOI:10.4103/digm.digm_15_18
The prefrontal cortex (PFC) has extensive reciprocal connections with nearly all cortical and subcortical structures, placing it in a unique position to orchestrate a wide range of cognitive and affective neural functions. Damage of PFC in humans is associated with profound changes in social and affective behavior. The development of new technologies in the field of cognitive rehabilitation is giving us the opportunity to use computer-based cognitive tools to improve the recovery of patients affected by acquired brain injury.

Case Report: Preliminary data of a game-based protocol for acute treatment of cervical spinal cord injury rehabilitation with Kinect |
|
Luca Morganti, Antonio Ascolese, Daniele Vitelli, Michele Spinelli Digit Med 2018, 4:142 (18 October 2018) DOI:10.4103/digm.digm_23_18
Game-based rehabilitation proved its efficacy in recent years, and the areas of intervention are increasing. In this article, we report the definition of a protocol for the treatment of people suffering from acute cervical spinal cord injury and its preliminary application with five patients. A suite of serious games using Kinect as device for game sessions is adopted for upper-limb rehabilitation. The possibility to customize the training plans by selecting different games for each patient gives the chance to include game created for other training targets (e.g., balance) that train further body parts (e.g., the trunk) and that can thus adapt the training to specific patient's needs.

Case Report: Esophageal carcinoma causing cystic metastases of liver |
|
Reddy Ravikanth Digit Med 2017, 3:145 (7 December 2017) DOI:10.4103/2226-8561.220129 Esophageal cancer with liver metastasis is rare and when diagnosed is usually advanced and surgical management is contraindicated. The most common sites of distant hematogenous metastases in esophageal cancer cases are the liver, lungs, and bones. Here, we present a rare case of esophageal carcinoma presenting with cystic metastases to the liver. |

Case Report: Ectodermal dysplasia |
|
Sunil Gothwal, Swati Nayan Digit Med 2015, 1:46 (30 September 2015) DOI:10.4103/2226-8561.166363 Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) results from abnormalities of the ectodermal structures such as hairs, teeth, nails, sweat glands, craniofacial structures, digits and other parts of the body. More than 200 different syndromes have been identified. It inherits as autosomal dominant or recessive or fresh mutations. Diagnosis is usually clinical with confirmation done by genetic studies. We report a newborn female baby delivered with sparse hair, poor skin pigmentation, dysmorphism, and absence of sweating, clinically diagnosed as ED. Her elder 3-year-old male sibling was a diagnosed case of ED, alive and healthy. Early diagnosis, multidisciplinary approach, and precautions during summer may be helpful in minimizing dehydration episodes and decrease in morbidity and mortality. Antenatal diagnosis is helpful in limiting the birth with ED. |
